Tim Walz: ‘There’s No Guarantee To Free Speech’

Another video of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) proudly displaying his far-left radicalism has been unearthed, this time showing the governor claiming that there is “no guarantee to free speech.

Soon after Vice President Kamala Harris named Walz as her running mate for the upcoming November election, many old videos were unearthed showing the governor speaking out in favor of extremely radical positions — including a clip from December 2022 of an appearance on MSNBC, where he declared his opposition to Americans’ First Amendment rights.

His comments came during a panel discussion on MSNBC’s “The Reidout” about so-called “misinformation” regarding U.S. elections, where he argued that Americans should be punished for questioning elections and for using “hate speech.”

“I think we need to push back on this. There’s no guarantee to free speech on misinformation or hate speech, and especially around our democracy,” Walz said in the clip that went viral on Wednesday.

Walz was almost immediately slammed by critics, who pointed out that Americans’ First Amendment right to free speech cannot be infringed upon by government, no matter how much Democrats wish to.

“That Tim Walz falsely believes the free speech guarantee doesn’t include what he considers to be ‘misinformation’ or ‘hate speech’ will bother almost no Dem supporters, since the vast majority of them want the state to be empowered to censor dissent,” wrote independent journalist Glenn Greenwald.

“Tim Walz wants to punish speech for being ‘misinformation.’ So does he want to punish himself for lying about his military service or his DUI?” asked Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

“Dude’s a straight up communist. An actual communist,” Trump adviser Stephen Miller responded.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) also responded to the clip, writing: “Walz couldn’t be more wrong in suggesting ‘there’s no guarantee to free speech’ when it comes to anything progressive Democrats might label ‘misinformation’ or ‘hate speech.’ Don’t trust this man with power.”

“This is a dangerous—and constitutionally illiterate—idea. If the First Amendment only protects ‘true’ speech, then the govt gets to decide what is true. That means there is no free speech. The USSR technically guaranteed a right to free speech. But not ‘false’ speech,” Heritage Foundation research fellow Jason Bedrick wrote.
