Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) has found himself in a bit of a pickle.
While the House was trying to get legislation passed, he “accidentally” pulled a fire alarm.
Bowman has maintained that he was in a rush and did not realize pulling the alarm would set off alarms throughout the building.
Now the GOP is trying to have him expelled from Congress.
No Accident
After video evidence showed that Bowman was the culprit, he tried to explain it away.
He stated, “Today, as I was rushing to make a vote, I came to a door that is usually open for votes but today would not open.
“I am embarrassed to admit that I activated the fire alarm, mistakenly thinking it would open the door.
“I regret this and sincerely apologize for any confusion this caused.
“But I want to be very clear, this was not me, in any way, trying to delay any vote.
“It was the exact opposite — I was trying urgently to get to a vote, which I ultimately did and joined my colleagues in a bipartisan effort to keep our government open.”
Speaker McCarthy responded, “This should not go without punishment.
“I’m gonna have a discussion with the Democratic leader about it.
“But this should not go without punishment. This is an embarrassment.”
Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-N.Y.) drafted a resolution to have him expelled, but I doubt she will be successful solely because there is no way to prove intent.
Furthermore, we know that when push comes to shove, Democrat Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries will pull the race card.
Let me just say, however; Bowman is a former teacher and principal, so he is quite aware of how fire alarms work.
He did this on purpose, of that I have no doubt, and he got caught.
So now he comes up with a lame excuse, playing the victim.
He should be expelled, but my guess is that we see nothing more than a censure, if that.
