The Attorney General of Michigan, Democrat Dana Nessel has rejected calls from the state GOP to investigate Governor Gretchen Whitmer‘s handling of nursing homes during COVID19. Whitmer denies any wrongdoing. Republicans have called for the AG to “investigate whether nursing home orders issued by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer led to COVID-19 deaths or if related data is inaccurate” according to local WZZM13.
The Detroit News reports that in response to a request from State Senator Jim Runestad Nessel said the GOP provided insufficient indication that “any law has been violated.” Nessel wrote,
“I appreciate that you and your colleagues have policy disagreements with Governor Whitmer’s response to COVID-19,” Nessel wrote. “But an investigation by my office is not the mechanism to resolve those disagreements.”
Whitmer Issued Deadly COVID19 Orders To Nursing Homes
In a report released by The Blaze March 9th apparently there is some disagreement as the Macomb County prosecutor Peter Lucido (R) said he is open to prosecuting Whitmer if crimes regarding her pandemic response are uncovered. He said,
“If we find there’s been willful neglect of office, if we find there’s been reckless endangerment of a person’s life by bringing them in, then we would move forward with charges against the Governor. Of course, we would. Nobody’s above the law in this state,” Lucido told WXYZ-TV.
Furthermore, Lucido is instructing Michigan residents “who lost loved ones to COVID as residents or staff inside nursing homes should go back to get the vital information about the circumstances of their death and take that to local police and make a complaint as a wrongful death,” WXYZ reported.
Whitmer Called Out By Crowder
AG Nessel’s announcement seems very suspect given conservative talk show host Steven Crowder’s damning reports that indicated a massive coverup similar to that under investigation in New York under Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Surely if Cuomo’s nearly identical actions in New York warrant investigation by NY Attorney General Letitia James, wouldn’t the #WhitmerDeathToll as well?
TheBlaze reported,
“Crowder specifically questioned why deaths at assisted living facilities, adult foster homes, and homes for the aged were not included in Michigan’s nursing home death toll at the time. As Crowder noted back in October, “This makes it clear why we need these numbers. Now, we can’t assume anything at this point, but we also can’t make an educated decision, can we, as to how we need to move forward as a state and as a country.”
Whitmer Denies, Says GOP Calls for Investigation “Shameful”
Governor Whitmer’s office has released a statement that denied the charges which given the disturbing allegations against her office are all the more galling. She claims that Mr. Lucido’s comments are “based in neither fact nor reality” while refusing to address the serious allegations presented by the Louder with Crowder Expose’. Whitmer hides behind supposed partisan attacks while engaging in them simultaneously.
The full statement says, according to WXYZ:
“Our top priority from the start has been protecting Michiganders, especially seniors and our most vulnerable. The administration’s policies carefully tracked CDC guidance on nursing homes, and we prioritized testing of nursing home residents and staff to save lives. Early in the pandemic, the state acted swiftly to create a network of regional hubs with isolation units and adequate PPE to prevent the spread of COVID-19 within a facility. In addition, we have offered 100 percent of nursing home resident priority access to the vaccine. Both the former head of AARP, as well as an independent U-M study, praised our work to save lives in nursing homes.
Mr. Lucido’s comments are shameful political attacks based in neither fact nor reality. Even his former colleague, Republican Sen. Ed McBroom, has said they “have not seen any evidence or testimony that says that a nursing home was forced to take someone against their will.” And there’s a reason why Mr. Lucido’s colleagues have publicly rebuked this politically-motivated waste of taxpayer dollars. Michiganders are tired of these petty partisan games, and we won’t be distracted by them either.
As the investigation against Governor Andrew Cuomo develops, it is almost certain that the similar results will be found in the Michigan capital of Lansing as Whitmer denies and denies. Where governments required nursing homes to accept COVID+ patients, avoidable death followed and the mainstream media were silently complicit. The Governments and leaders who sacrificed our Grandparents and Parents for their own political gains and the media and big tech giants who actively fight the truth must be held accountable.
