Large Group of American Christians Taken Hostage

An infamous Haitian Gang has kidnapped 17 American missionaries and their families. The gang, known as 400 Mawozo, has unleashed a new kind of terror on the streets of Haiti’s capital city, Port-au-prince, as they have mastered large group Kidnappings. Their current hostage is a large group of American Christians, there on a mission trip.

Haiti is a country in chaos. Beaten and battered by natural disasters and political upheaval. Many organizations have come in to help the people, but not all come with honest intentions. Human Trafficking has been on the rise in earthquake-torn cities and Political corruption leaves the people desperate for change. Because of this Gangs step into the void. They take advantage of destitute communities and then turn to more profitable victims.

The Christians Taken Hostage Included Small Children

The hostages work for the Christian Aide Ministries based out of Ohio. All the adults are staff members, but the group included one Canadian citizen and two small children.

The Ohio-based group was kidnapped Saturday while traveling by vehicle just north of Port-au-Prince. They were returning to the area after visiting an orphanage in Croix des Bouquets.

The Washington Post obtained a prayer request from the Christian Aide Ministries. They stated, “The mission field director and the American embassy are working to see what can be done.” The request continued with an appeal to pray for the kidnappers. “Pray that the gang members will come to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.”

The Biden Administration claims to be on top of the situation. An administration official stated, “The welfare and safety of U.S. citizens abroad is one of the highest priorities of the Department of State.”

Politico reports that gang violence in Haiti is on the rise after a lull due to the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, who was shot at his private residence on July 7, and after a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that killed more than 2,200 people in August.
