CNN actually decided to fact check Joe Biden in an article titled, “Fact check: Biden falsely claims journalists had all said his vaccination goal was impossible to meet.”
The left-wing news outlet began their fact check by discussing Biden’s speech and executive actions, along with the first non-softball question asked of Biden.
“President Joe Biden delivered a factually accurate Thursday speech about the coronavirus pandemic. But then, after he signed a series of executive actions intended to address the crisis, he was asked by a reporter whether the vaccination goal he announced in December — 100 million doses administered in 100 days — is sufficiently ambitious,” CNN wrote.
Without actually giving President Trump the credit he is due, the outlet notes that the goal may be too modest because the United States is already “approaching a 1-million-doses-administered-per-day level even before Biden gets to implement his plans.”
They note that “over the last week,” half of which the country was still led by President Trump, the U.S. had been averaging “914,000 doses administered per day” according to data published on January 21 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Biden appear to get angry at the reporter for asking him whether his goal was too low. “When I announced it, you all said it’s not possible. Come on, give me a break, man. It’s a good start — 100 million,” he snapped.
Then came CNN’s fact check:
“Biden’s claim is false; it’s not true that there was an initial media consensus that the 100 million goal was impossible. Some of the early news coverage of the goal did not even question whether it was plausible. Some experts featured in the early coverage, including CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta, said the goal was achievable. And while some journalists and experts were more skeptical, cautioning that the goal was ambitious, they did not go so far as to say it was impossible.”
The outlet then went on to list various quotes from media figures and specialists, some calling the goal “very doable,” like Sanjay Gupta, and others calling it a “massive undertaking,” like a brief CNN analysis article by Lauren Dezenski. But the outlet insists it has not found any evidence that the media referred to the goal as impossible.
One thing most conservatives believed was impossible was that the mainstream media would ever fact check an elected Democrat, but it surprisingly did happen. CNN’s article was unexpected, but could be a sign that the media is already turning on Biden, as they no longer need him to get rid of Trump.
